The pike perch has an elongated, spindle-shaped body. As a member of the perch family, it has two dorsal fins. The front dorsal fin is equipped with spiny rays, while the rear dorsal fin has segmented rays. The head is pointed and the mouth is deeply split. The coloring of the pike perch varies: the back is greenish gray, while the belly is silvery white. It also has stripe-like patterns on its upper side.
