The wild form of the carp is long and slightly flattened at the sides with a fully scaled body. The back is olive green with lighter flanks and a yellowish to whitish belly. The various breeding forms, such as common carp, common carp, mirror carp and leather carp, each have different characteristics. Common carp still have a fully preserved coat of scales, while common carp have fewer scales and a row of large scales along the lateral line. Mirror carp only have a few, irregularly distributed scales on the otherwise scaleless sides, while leather carp or naked carp are completely scaleless. The variety of the different carp forms is fascinating and is reflected in their external appearance, which has been achieved through targeted breeding measures. Carp are popular food fish and can be found in waters all over the world.
